Write Night

Hey guys! I miss all of you!!! Our first Write Night is going to be at Hildegard's downtown on September 13. We'll meet from 6:30-8:00. They have wireless access, and the topic will be posted to the blog, so if you aren't able to be there in form you can still be there is spirit. I know we're all busy with school and classes, but don't forget how much we enjoyed writing and sharing this summer! This is a chance to escape reality for a bit! I'll be sending reminders before each Write Night, but in case you want to plan ahead, the tentative dates for fall semester are: Sept. 13, Oct. 9, Nov. 8, and Dec. 11. See you there!

Writing Prompt: New Beginnings

Hi folks,

Since schools are beginning for all of us, I thought it might be time for a new writing prompt: New Beginnings. Let the muse take you away!

Catching up

We had such a busy few weeks, I thought I would never get a chance to blog again.

I too was shocked and saddened at Robert's passing, but I am glad I was able to know him for a few weeks.

Congratulations Kim. You must be so excited.

My family has all gone home now, and I am officially working. My schedule appears to be such that my classes for the fall will be put on hold. Hopefully I can start again in the spring, and if not, then definitely the summer.

Donna, I have not forgotten I need to meet with you this Saturday.

I will try to get organized now and keep up with this. I did make my kids and nephews write, now I need to get going again.

Hope everyone had a great summer, and we'll see each other again to rejuvenate.

Some Good News

I just thought that we all may need some good news. My brother and his wife had their baby on Wednesday. It's a BOY!

Writing Retreat

Folks, I'm in Washington state right now at a writing retreat sponsored by National Writing Project. Here's the good news: because I attended this writing retreat, our site is eligible to apply for a minigrant to sponsor our own professional writing retreat. I say "professional writing retreat" because one goal is for us to join the professional conversation about the teaching of writing and about teaching in general. One way to do that is to revise your teaching demonstrations into an article for _Voice_ or _The Quarterly of the National Writing Project_ or for some other journal. Be thinking about what issue you want to explore in writing, and I'll be in touch about our own writing retreat. Also, is anyone interested in helping me write the minigrant? Let me know.

my niece shares her writing

Hi everyone. In keeping with this summer's theme of freewriting, my niece, who is entering the 5th grade at Clyattville Elem, has begun writing in her journal with me. She gave me permission to share today's entry. It is based on a dog's letter from obedience school only this is about her playing the role of her dog, Cali.

Today I bathed Cally (my dog). I also scrubbed her teeth with a washcloth. She hates both things. I'm going to pretend I'm her and what I would do at night to get back at Taylor. I would take a pen and draw on her face and then get a cup of water and pour it on her face so the ink would run and cover her face. Then I would take the whipped cream and scwert some in her hand then tic(k)le her face with a feather so she would rub whipped cream all over her face. I got that one from TV. Wait there's more. I would put a couple of scoops of ice cream on her face and a cherry on top with of course some chocalate and heck I'd eat it. Hey, a dog's got to do what a dog's got to do. Would you eat Taylor's face?
