Everybody Knows

"Everybody Knows" conjures up the song by the same name by Concrete Blonde.  I know that it is a remake, but it is the only version that I know.  I was featured in the movie Pump Up the Volume.  Christian Slater was in that movie.; remember when he was a badass?  I used to have a crush on him when I was growing up.  Usually, for me to be interested in a guy, they have to be at least 6 feet tall.  (I want to give my future children half a chance at being average height.)  But I was willing to make an exception for him.  I think that I saw every movie that he was in, both good and bad.   (Kuffs, anyone?)   Heathers is still one of my favorite movies.  If you have never seen Heathers, it was the Mean Girls of the 90s, on drugs.  It was dark.  But when Christian started dating someone, he lost my attention, and I moved on.

Another crush was Sean Astin from The Goonies.  Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking.  Maybe I had a soft spot for boys with asthma and braces.   Yet again, I ignored the height requirement.  And he ended up in a hobbit movie.  (No, I have never had a crush on the boy who plays Harry Potter.)  My taste in boys has not improved much over the years although I have not resorted to posting my reaction to the trailer to New Moon, so I figure that I'm doing okay.
Since I'm on the topic of movies (sort of) I'll talk about movies.  I must confess that one of my favorite movies is Bring it On.  When I was a cheerleading coach in Douglas, I would have killed any person that threatened to make me watch it; however, now, four years later, it amuses me greatly.  I have been know to watch Dirty Dancing at least once a year although I don't own it.
I'm getting distracted by JC Chasez.  Oh, that's something that everybody knows about me.  Not that I had a crush on JC Chasez (although he was my favorite from NSYNC; I didn't like Justin's curly hair although look at him now.  But I digress.)  I love music and always have my iPod attached to me.  In fact, when my iPod died last summer, it was like the loss of a loved one and not having "Hans" made me experience serious symptoms of withdrawal.  Now what what people don't necessarily know is what music is on "Junior."  There's some serious 90s pop (Britney, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC), some rap (T.I., Lil Wayne, Ludacris), country (Rascal Flatts, Faith Hill, Sugarland), pop (John Mayer, Maroon 5, David Cook), and people that you've probably never heard of (Gomez, Sam Phillips, OTR, Sufjan Stevens).  And to think there was a time that I hated on people who had iPods.

I shall leave you with some poetry courtesy of Lil Wayne and T-Pain: "I need a Winn Dixie grocery bag full of money . . ."

  • It's funny to me that I wrote about IPods today, not in the sense of moronic however, just in terms of who used them in here and who didn't. As you know, I can't write with lyrics playing, and I can't write with people talking, which is why IPods are great inventions. They allow all of us to share the same writing space. I can write in places like Atlanta Bread Company where the music has no words, even though I don't particularly enjoy classical music. But at ABC, I feel smarter, maybe just cultured in a way I don't normally experience.

Wes put every CD we own on his IPod without necessarily checking them. He was startled when Air Supply started playing. Hey, "Lost in Love" was seriously good music to me when I was in seventh grade and wanted to feel that way, but he frantically skipped over it and stared at me in a puzzled, concerned way. Oh well, sometimes the sins (or songs) of the past come back to haunt you.
