Children's Books
Literature is literature,
one might say,
but I’ve got a favorite
I could read every day.
Though an unlikely lover
of this juvenile style
I grab books by the armful
when I walk down that aisle.
Fantasy tales with an unlikely hero,
magical mysteries with an unexpected twist,
gross humor that makes all the boys give a chuckle,
pop-up books… well you get the gist.
Picture books lure me
with their beautiful illustrations.
Teenage poets
make me sigh with their frustrations.
Up and down, from aisle to aisle,
I slowly peruse the children’s section.
Searching for something new, fresh, or bold,
I eagerly hunt for my newest selection.
Silverstein, Snicket
Dahl, and Rowling
are just some of the authors
who keep me strolling.
Keep your Higgens-Clark, your Dan Brown, and Tom Clancy,
your Oprah Book Club book, and your grown up flights of fancy.
I’ll stay in my world of children’s lit
and perhaps, one day, write my own new hit.

Love it! You should put this on the e-anthology and see what kind of feedback you get.

We have been talking about adding a children's story to the creative writing pieces in here. What do you think?

This is such a great poem. I really liked the ending. I agree with Lindsi. I think you should post it, too.

I most definitely think a children's story should be part of the creative writing piece! Fabulous idea!!

It would be fun to have a children's story be an activity to work on as a collaborative assignment with all of the participating fellows.
