Storytelling

Okay, Wes is helping me to generate ideas, so I'll start with a list.

There are some I can't write about for fear of retaliation or mortification:

  • Jernigan
  • tree stand
  • frog attack
  • flash (ayyyyaa!)

Okay, we just realized that there aren't too many stories we won't tell. Apparently, we have a high threshhold for embarrassment.

Potentially funny stories we might share:

  • Fish Bait
  • Tree Stand
  • Roach Dance
  • The Spaghetti Spoon Incident

The Powerful Lure

"Let's go in the water, Trevor," Wes urged my four-year-old nephew who viewed the water suspiciously. Trevor looked at the waves, looked at Wes, and returned to his sand pail.

Wes and I took floats and waded out into the water with my sister and her husband, Trevor's parents. Porpoised fed beyond the sandbar, pushing smaller fish toward shore to avoid them. Fish bumped against our legs, freaking me out a little, so I climbed atop one of the floats to avoid them. The porposes seemed just beyond our reach.

Suddenly, Wes slapped his hand through the water, pushed his float toward me, and said, "Hold this. I'll be right back."

Never one to obey, I grabbed our floats and followed him into shore, a little concerned about the way he was limping. Did he step on a crab? on a stingray? I wondered. I hope he's okay.

Wes walked toward Trevor. "Let me borrow this a minute, buddy," he asked as he took the bucket and dumped the sand out. Trevor stared at Wes, who returned to the ocean to scoop up a bucketful of water. He continued to walk funny and keep a hand pressed against his bathing suit front.

My brow wrinkled as I watched my boyfriend steal my nephew's sand bucket.

Then Wes stood over the sand bucket. Oh my God! What is he doing? I wondered. Wes removed his hand and shook his bathing suit leg. A fish fell out.

Trevor's eyes widened as he looked at Wes. My mouth dropped open. Laughter erupted from Trevor's parents who had followed us to shore.

Trevor played with the fish all day long, and we teased Wes about his fishing lure all day long.

  • This is too funny. I can just see Wes hanging on to his "junk" walking back to shore. I would have died laughing.

  • I love it.. I have to say, that Friends moment when Joey peed on Monica's leg after the jelly fish stung her was running through my mind. I didn't know WHAT was about to happen. Very funny!

  • Allie is reading the story with me, so she will comment. She said it was funny and she loved it. If he did it for Andy, Andy would laugh and have a good time.
