Heart vs. Mind

These were samples of my writing done during Breah's presentation. The first little piece was written during the "class leader" assignment. The second was a response to the "heart vs mind" assignment.

Several years ago, I was a squad leader for a weapons unit in the 101st Airborne Division. During my time serving in this capacity, I led my squad through many successful missions. I helped them learn to practice killing indiscriminately. This knowledge will be invaluable in the coming months because this is my 3rd time in Mrs. Johnson’s class, and I know now that she’s got to go. When the mutiny occurs, you’ll want someone who is dependable and willing and able to pull the trigger. I am that guy!

The heart is broke. The heart is a bowl of Jell-O or an egg that depends on someone else to protect it. The heart has no bills just debts. It has wants and desires. The heart is willing and ridiculous most of the time. It is a child that is oblivious to the storm around it until it is helplessly crushed by the debris. The mind is rich. The mind is an Oak Tree deeply rooted and preparing for the storm or the drought. It is an adult with demands and obligations. It has purpose and cause. The mind leads us to where we should be while the heart takes us where we want to be.

  • I love the class leader piece. That was funny. It would terrify me to receive that from a student.
