Rainy Days and Mondays..

How appropriate that this is the topic for today. Not only is it Monday (so sooooonnnnnnn), but it is also RAINING!!! Now I know why I have felt so physically bummed out since about Saturday noon. My body knew it was going to rain and it didn’t feel the need to let me know about it until this morning when I realized that even after my hot shower, I still felt sore and creaky.
I usually don’t mind rainy days. However, since I was totally lethargic on Saturday anyhow, how come it could not have rained then. I would have had an excuse for staying inside all day long in my P.j.s and everyone would have understood. Instead, I just wasted an entirely good day (weather-wise)
It is really sad that I have a built in rain/weather change forecasting mechanism in my body. It actually is the direct fault of my parents. Both of them have arthritis in various parts of their body. I, on the other hand, (is a golden band.. oops, how did the Randy Travis song slip in here) have been blessed to be the only one of Jim and Hazel’s offspring to have arthritis. However, it is in every joint of my body! Thanks Mom and Dad… words cannot describe how I feel about that particular, unique gift from you guys!
I do love Saturday mornings when it is rainy and I have no reason to get out of bed other than to get another cup of Hot chocolate to go along with my good book I am reading.
When it is really rainy and I have to get out in it, I find myself getting grumpy just because I have to deal with the inconveniences that are associated with this type of weather day. First of all, I HATE umbrellas and although I do have a couple of them in my car, I really hate using them. Afterall, what do you do with an umbrella once you get inside a dry building? Do I really need a fake sword to help me fight my way to my classroom? Nope. So, other than that, I see no reason to use one.
Also, rainy days are not usually good to my hairdos which I have enough trouble creating out of little to work with. It does not matter that everyone else has had to endure the same type of weather I did. Somehow, they just look better doing it! That could really be a reason for bodily harm to someone.
Rainy days also wreck havoc on the behavior of well behaved students. They feel that because it is raining that somehow that gives them a license to act really stupid. Wrong! The only thing worse on students in a classroom than a rainy day is a full moon. Either way, there is no way that a teacher will be able to be other than grateful that he or she has survived rainy days or full moon days. Don’t even get me started on what happens on a Rainy day that is also a full moon day!
It also depends on what season it is as to whether or not the rainy day is kicked up a notch or not. A light spring shower is truly different from a full blown rainstorm during the bleak winter months. Those are enough to make you want to slit your wrists! I rather like the summer thunderstorms we have, however. Those have the potential to be really cool storms but they never last long even if they bring a hurricane. The rain doesn’t last very long. But it is interesting to see how mad Mother Nature wants to get and how violent a storm she wants to throw at us. Inside my little house that has survived over 100 years of tempestuous weather, I feel nice and secure.
Just please God, don’t make today very bad because I am just not mentally or physically prepared to deal with rain along with a Monday!
